Cashier resume examples you can copy, with or without experience
A good cashier resume shows a manager three things: you are accurate with money, friendly with customers, and free when they need you. Put your availability in the summary, list any job where you handled cash or customers, and keep it to one page. No experience? School, volunteering and babysitting count.

What a store manager looks for
Cashiers greet customers, scan items, take payment, give change and receipts, bag purchases, and handle returns. So a manager reading your resume checks:
- Money: does your drawer balance?
- People: are you friendly and calm with a long line or an upset customer?
- Time: can you work the shifts they need? Schedules often include early mornings, late evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Reliability: do you show up?
Your resume answers those four. Nothing else is needed.
The order to use
- Name, phone, email, city
- Summary (two lines, with your availability)
- Experience
- Skills
- Education
If you have no job yet, put education second and add a section for volunteering or activities.
Cashier resume examples: lines to copy
Copy the ones that are true for you and change the numbers. Use "about" if you are guessing from a normal shift.
Not sure how many customers you check out? Ask your manager, or count one normal hour and multiply by the hours in your shift.
Cashier resume skills
Pick five to eight. Use the words from the job posting when they are true for you.
| Hard skills | Soft skills |
|---|---|
| Cash handling | Friendly with customers |
| Point of sale (register) | Calm under pressure |
| Card, mobile and EBT payments | Reliable and on time |
| Returns and exchanges | Good with numbers |
| Counting a drawer | Teamwork |
| Stocking and facing | Speaking a second language |

If this is your first job (objective):
Cashier resume with no experience
You do not need a past cashier job. You need proof you can handle money and people. Each of these is one line on your resume:
| You did | Write it like this |
|---|---|
| School store or concession stand | "Ran the cash box at home games, about 50 sales a night." |
| Bake sale or fundraiser | "Collected and counted $600 for the band trip." |
| Babysitting | "Looked after two kids for three families every weekend." |
| Volunteering | "Greeted and signed in visitors at the food bank on Saturdays." |
| Fast food or retail job | "Took orders and payments at the counter during the lunch rush." |
Put your school with your expected graduation date. A GPA of 3.0 or higher can go on too.
Mistakes to avoid
- Made-up percentages. "Raised sales by 25%" is not a cashier's number. Customers per shift and a balanced drawer are.
- "Responsible for." Start with what you did: check out, balance, train, handle.
- No availability. A manager filling weekend shifts wants to see "weekends" on the page.
- An email you would not give your boss. Use your name.
- More than one page. One page is enough for this job. Cut anything that is not about money, customers or showing up.

Questions
Do I need a certificate to be a cashier?
No. Cashiers learn on the job, in training that may last up to a few weeks. A high school diploma is often preferred but not always required.
Should I put my availability on a cashier resume?
Yes, in one short line in your summary, such as "Available evenings and weekends." Stores schedule early mornings, late nights, weekends and holidays, so it helps.
What do I write if I was never a cashier?
Write any job, volunteering or school role where you handled money or helped people: a bake sale, a concession stand, babysitting, a school store. Say what you did in one line each.
How long should a cashier resume be?
One page. Most cashier resumes need only a summary, one to three jobs and a short skills list.
