How to cancel a resume builder subscription and stop the charges

To cancel a resume builder subscription, find which company is charging you and when it renews, cancel in your account settings before that date, and keep the confirmation. If charges continue, write to the company, then dispute the charge with your card issuer, as the FTC advises. Each builder's own steps are linked below.

These steps work for any resume builder. Each company's own steps, contacts and refund terms are in its guide, in the table at the end.

1. Find out which company is charging you

Look at the charge on your bank or card statement. Resume builders often bill under a company or payment provider name rather than the brand you remember. Some examples, from each company's own pages, read on October 3, 2026:

Builder How the charge appears, by its own pages
MyPerfectResume MYPERFECTRESUME.COM, MYPERFECTRESUME or BLD*MYPERFECTRESUME
Resume.io RESUME.IO
Resume Genius ResumeGenius.com, STL*ResumeGenius or PayPal *RGENIUS, among others
Resume.co Resume.co
Enhancv PADDLE.NET* ENHANCV (Paddle is its payment provider)

The guides below list more. If you do not recognise a charge at all, search your email, spam folder included, for a sign-up or receipt from that name: it tells you which address the account is under.

2. Find the renewal date and the amount

Many builders start with a short, cheap trial that renews into a recurring plan. Open your receipt email or the account's billing page and write down:

  • the day you signed up and how long the trial or period lasts,
  • the renewal price and how often it repeats (every 4 weeks is 13 charges a year, not 12),
  • any refund window, counted from the purchase date.

The FTC's advice for any trial: "make a note on your calendar to remind you to cancel before the trial ends."

3. Cancel in your account

Sign in with the email you signed up with and look in your account, profile, settings or billing page for a cancel option. Follow it to the end: many cancel flows have a survey or an offer before the final confirm button. Deleting your account, or unsubscribing from emails, is not the same as cancelling.

If you cannot find it, use the company's phone, chat or email support. The FTC's first step is: "look up the company that runs the subscription you want to cancel. If the company has instructions on how to cancel, follow those."

4. Keep the proof

Keep the confirmation email, a cancellation number if you get one, and a screenshot of the billing page showing the subscription as cancelled. The FTC: "Keep a copy of your cancellation request, along with notes about any conversations you had about canceling." Until you have a confirmation, treat the subscription as still active.

5. Ask for a refund, in writing

If you are inside the company's refund window, ask when you cancel. Email gives you a dated record. Here is a message to copy:

Subject: Cancel my subscription and confirm by email Hello, Please cancel my subscription today and stop all future charges. Account email: [the email you signed up with] Date of the charge: [date] Amount: [amount] Card ending in: [last 4 digits] I am asking for a refund of [amount] charged on [date], under your refund policy. Please send me written confirmation of the cancellation. Thank you, [Your name]

Delete the refund line if you are outside the window.

6. If you are still charged: your card issuer

Watch your statements after you cancel. The FTC says that if a company "won't stop charging your account after you told them to cancel your subscription", file a dispute for chargeback with your credit or debit card company, online or by calling the number on the back of your card, then follow up with a letter to the address it lists for billing disputes. "Keep any letters, notes, or emails related to what happened."

If the problem is not resolved, report it to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov or to your state attorney general.

Questions

Does deleting my account cancel the subscription?

Do not count on it. Cancel the subscription itself, through the company's cancel page or support, and wait for a confirmation before you delete anything.

Does unsubscribing from emails cancel a resume builder?

No. Enhancv's help centre, for example, says unsubscribing from its newsletter does not stop your payment plan. Cancel the subscription itself.

Will I get a refund if I cancel?

It depends on the company's own terms, and they differ a lot: some offer a window after the first purchase, some none. Check the guide for your builder, and ask for the refund in writing when you cancel.

What if I cannot cancel or the charges continue?

Write to the company with the date you cancelled and any confirmation number. If it keeps charging you, the FTC says to file a dispute with your credit or debit card company, and to report it to the FTC or to your state attorney general.

How do I stop a 14-day or 7-day trial from renewing?

Cancel before the trial ends. Write down the sign-up day, count the days the offer states, and cancel a day early. The FTC says: if you don't cancel on time, you'll probably be charged.
